First book: done.
I have to admit, at many times this week I kept thinking this blog is a dumb idea. I couldn't help but think why don't I do something more interesting than read books and blog about them? I don't know. Maybe it will turn into that. But for now I'm sticking with the books.
And having said that ... book #1 is finished. The Great Gatsby.
The first chapter was hard to get into. It wasn't until the last couple paragraphs that I was hooked. I decided not to read the synopsis of this book so I had absolutley no idea what was going to happen at all. I think that made this book a little more interesting.
What do I have to say about it? Well, for one I had to keep reminding myself that this book was written in the 1920's and not written in modern day about the 1920's. Girls had names like Jordan in the 20's. I had no idea. It was comforting to me that people haven't changed: corruption, adultery, greed, the worship of money. Let me explain myself. For some reason I keep thinking people have only gotten worse in the past 15 years (make sense since the world seemed safe and innocent until I was about 12). And I always think what a tragedy it is. I know it sounds weird, but I take comfort in the fact that people have always been this way.
I am going to a Great Gatsby themed dinner party this weekend and I look forward to it. I am excited to find some 20's garb and do my hair and find a dish that was popular back then. I will definitely post pics!
Stay tuned! Tomorrow I will reveal the book I will read next!
how did you find a Great Gatsby themed dinner party?
ReplyDeleteA couple of my friends, who live in a mansion, are throwing a Gatsby themed party. It was the party that inspired me to read the book.
